When I’m creating, I’m usually in the “zone” as my family calls it! So, in the zone, intense vivid colors catch my attention. So there are very few pale colors in my portfolio at any time. This piece was used for my banner on my first blog.
This piece created some time ago, is my ode to pale pastel colors.
I like creating in black and white first (either graphite or pen) and then color is built upon that. Many times, I will leave parts of the image in black and white, generally it’s the face and I add color to the background or the clothing. It’s a style preference for me, but it is also, my experience of how many people view others, in terms of black and white, yet we can see the landscapes surrounding people in brilliant colors! So my motto and artistic statement, is “Illuminating the black and white of life in vivid color”
Anyhow, this is a pale, playful piece for me, Pale to me is pastel colors and polar bears. But, I like living my life in full vivid colors! Peace

Oh, such a lovely polar B. I love your colors. Thanks for your last comment on my last week illo.

I posted a polar bear, too. One of those pale things that doesn’t seem to pastel, I think. I’m not terribly in to pastels.

January 16th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Beautiful – like the contrast between black/white and color. It seems to add another dimension to the piece

Oh this bear is so pale and beautiful. Even whimsical.

There is some good color development in the background of your piece. I like the subtle expression on the polar bear (or at least, what I perceive as a polar bear’s possible range of expression). They look so cuddly but they will mess you up!

What a beautifully pale illustration. I love the way you use vivid colors, but as is evident in this illo, you also work wonderfully with pale pastels.

A fitting topic for ‘pale’. He is a great bear, you have capture him so well. I agree that he looks like the bear out of ‘The Golden Compass’.

It’s gorgeous, Indigene! I have a thing for polar bears (allright, I have a thing for all animals!), and I love the way yours is looking straight at us. I also like pastel colors, and the soft background really works well in this painting.

Love him–now and before. :) Very nice.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
White things painted with bits of color definitely convey “pale.”
January 20th, 2009 at 5:47 am
cute bear, but no “teddy”.

What a cute fellow… (looks like he has just taken seat at the table and is waiting to get his meal served ^o^)
What you said about people perceiving other in black and white while they see the surroundings in color really made me think.
