Midsummer Nights of Mind Body & Spirit

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

I am in the middle of a summer night’s dream, of the mind, body and spirit. I am trying to wrap my mind around the concept of the spirit leaving the body.

It’s not something that I can articulate well at this point, and maybe I never will.

(“Mind Body & Spirit” – Mixed Media/Paper)

My sweet little sister, Renee is in hospice, that is really all I can say now. My dreams are filled with surrender, an outpouring of love and a deep hole of sadness. So on these midsummer nights, I try to understand, believe and sustain faith. May the God you believe in, give you the peace of mind, that can surround the body, so that the soul may be released. Blessings to you and yours.

Spider Woman

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Another painting in my Goddess Series is Spider Woman. I’m not doing the goddess series in any order, other than they way that they come to me; nor do I have any idea how many paintings will complete the series, I’ll let them determine that. This is a great educational process and fantastic artistic journey!

Spider Woman is an important goddess among many southwestern Native American tribes.  Spider Woman is responsible for bringing fire to the Pueblo, Tewa and Kiwa tribes.

For the Hopi tribes, Spider Woman is a creator of the moon, and their  emergence into the world. Spider Woman has the power to give and take life, and is connected to hunting and agriculture.

Cherokee Grandmother Spider brought people the sun and fire. She taught them pottery, weaving, and how to make ceremonial blessings.

The great blessings and history of Spider Woman will not “expire and will continue to be a wonderful tradition in Native American culture. Remember to pass on your cultural and family traditions so that they will live on for generations to come!

Work-In-Progress: The Spider Woman painting started out as a graphite sketch, proceeding to mix media including: ink, watercolor, acrylic and finally a light glaze of oil paint! It was a timely process, but so worth the luminosity that cannot be seen on any screen version!

Island – IF

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Forgive me, my schedule is so hectic and off the charts this week so I borrowed an image of mine from my website: http://indigeneart.com. It is the image of a contemplative woman sitting in the waters off an island, the original piece is entitled, “Solitude.”

There is an expression (I can’t remember who said it) that goes something like, “no man is an island.” It is the phrase that comes to mind when I saw the IF prompt for this week.

I differ with that expression because I think that every one exist in and on their own personal island. It is the water (emotions, and or physical plane) surrounding our personal islands that connect us all.

So today, whether you are your own island, connected to others through play, work, family, or an island within an island, find your paradise this week, either on a physical plane or your personal spiritual journey. Until next week, Peace and Blessings to all the islands in the universe and those whom people them.
