Still Questioning…

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

“Question everything. Every stripe, every star, every word spoken. Everything.” – Ernest Gaines

I remember as a child, being asked to stop talking in class, a few minutes later, when the teacher turned away from the board, she asked me, “Are you still talking?” I remember looking at her perplexed and then replied, “Yes, because you’re asking me a question, and I need to talk to answer you.” Hmmm…I was sent home with a note from school that day! :)

We are told to question everything, yet we are sometimes ostracized as being too inquisitive, attention-wanting, time-suckers, with a rolling of eyes, etc. There were times in my life when I didn’t want to ask the question, but I needed to know why I’m asked to do things without reason or question. It’s my way of making sense of the world. I know that there are some questions that cannot be answered, but the search for the answer is a response to a life worth living.

Silence is great for meditation, but not as a response to life. Art making for me is answering a call/question from within me. I do this to explore every stripe, star and to make a mark as an answer or to question my spirit’s leanings.

If you are from the 50+ age crowd, you may have had to curb your questioning as a child, because it was better to be seen and not heard, back then! Can you imagine?

How do you respond to questions? As an adult are you embarrassed to ask questions? Do you fear the answers? Do you fear asking questions?

I love hearing from you.

In peace to you and yours.

My Heart Swells…

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

This image, right now sums up my feelings and I do not have the strength to create anything else, that fits these feelings.

I listen everyday, as my Mum’s voice gets weaker and weaker and all that is happening to me is my heart swells and I wear it on my face.

I hold on to all the sweet and sour that is her and pray that it lasts me a life time.

I pray that everyone holds what is dear in life earnestly and closely, so that they may be able to let it go when it is time.

In peace to you and yours.

Opinion – Illustration Friday

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I have never met a woman who didn’t have an opinion, but I have met women who are not allowed to share their opinions, or who are thought not to have one.

The right to have an opinion and to express it freely is a human right.

Peace to you all on this designated weekend of thanksgiving, and make everyday a time of thanksgiving.

WISE – IF

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Wise, like all words have several variations of meaning, but it has always meant to me, more or less:

“having the power of discerning and judging properly as to what is true or right; possessing discernment, judgment, or discretion.” (see dictionary.com)

I have found that it also depends on who’s opinion of wisdom you’re seeking.

In looking at wise as a visual, I’ve found wisdom, across cultures, genders and ages. So in my travels, in a supermarket, a daycare center, a senior center, across the road, the city, the country, and around the world, I see wise faces in the hope of a woman, the essence of a child, and the wrinkles of an old man. I’ve found the key is being able to see wisdom, at all.

Look for wisdom, in all ages and in all people, we all have some to give. Peace to you all.

Repair – IF

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I’d like to take great liberties and ask, “How Do You Repair A Broken Heart?” The Bee Gees song, popped in my head as soon as I saw the IF prompt (although they used the word, mend), this week! Actually, I can still hear the tune as I post this.

All this to say that repair never reminds me of home remodeling or fixing an inanimate object. It always makes me think about repairing the brokenness of people I have hurt in my life.

Do I wish I had no relationships to repair? Yes.

Has my relationship repair jobs taken me to places that I would rather have not gone? No.

In the repairing of relationships, I have found that I have been the one repaired!

Always in repairs of the heart, we grow, deepened and realize that we are and always will be messy humans, who are always in need of repair.

Start a little at a time, maybe with just a thread, a call, a letter, a note…do something…and repair what needs to be repaired in your broken relationships.

Repairing my life a little at a time, sending out some amazing wishes for you to use the tools in your life to do the same! Peace

There’s an expression that says, “a picture is worth a thousand words.

That’s what my image is trying to convey.

Enough, already!

Pet Peeve – Mini List

- Having someone wake me before I’m ready to wake up!

- Waking my daughter up before she’s ready to wake up!

- Unrealistic deadlines!

- Not being able to create a brand new illustration for Illustration Friday!

Oh, believe me the list is long this week, since pet peeves have kept me from posting my illustration earlier. This little image is from one of my journals, since I could not find the time to create a new entry for this week! I knew this image summed up what I’m missing, SLEEP…Ah! Another pet peeve…the lack of…
