My mind and body feels tired, but as soon as I lie down, my mind becomes alert, goes into overdrive and over-active. I paced the floor or I read until the early hours of the morning, then I finally fall asleep.

My norm is hyper-sensitive, anxious and quick to become annoyed. My voice trembles, not from anger, but from passion. about what I believe in. When I was younger, people thought, it was nervousness or some type of rage; my inner tensions were so great, I had debilitating migraine headaches. After intense mental, emotional and spiritual therapy, the end result is and was that I need art to be a part of my daily life, no matter what!

It is when I’m actually making art, which includes the doodling, the scribbling, random notes to myself, research, reference-taking photos and finally putting the materials together for some unknown art project, I feel like relief, normal, calm and pleasant to be around. The world then feels right for me.

When I am not making art, (either by trying to avoid it, because I’m not sure what I’m going to do next – or because I have to put that art on hold because I’m trying to care for my family and others, (at the risk of forsaking myself), I return to that state of uneasiness and depression. This state becomes even more intensified, when external things are happening, outside of my control, such as the cancer running rampant in my loved ones.

Maybe my sleeplessness has something to do with trying to stop these things from coming out in my artwork, revealing myself. I am going to have to just let it all out. Otherwise, I’ll only tear myself up inside. Maybe that’s what these revelatory ramblings are about…“entanglement“, now maybe peace and sleep can come, it’s morning.

I look out of my office window and see three enormous redwood trees. They form a semi-circle around a little rickety bench.

There are days, when I sit on that bench, near these luscious beauties, which I have named “the three sisters”. Wondering often, if they could speak, what infinite wisdom would they share.

They are infinitely magical to me, changing the lines of their bark to peer at me in all kinds of shapes, color and forms. But, no matter the transformation of these “sisters”, they always appear as women, whispering to me, daring me to discover their infinite wisdom.

But, I cannot… all I can do in my mere attempts, is to sit in their beauty and try to capture a fleeting glance, a colorful whisper, a dancing tone…knowing their infinite magic will outlive mine.

This week, in stillness, I try to capture the infinity of nature and peace…let’s all meet there in that infinity. Peace

I dream of having “idle” time, it’s not something, I’ve ever had a lot of! So it was very difficult for me to come up with an idea. But, I remember when I was little, I enjoyed taking long baths, and I would hear many complaints from my brothers and sisters, about spending, “too much time in the bath!”, so I finally centered on that idea, coupled with the fact, that I’m such a Mama Bear.

In a day or so this week, I will hopefully repost this illustration, in color, that will be my modification. You choose whether you like the “idle” line drawing or “modified” with color.

I’m hoping to have some idle time to modify it! :)

I hope you all decide to make take some idle time, and modify that time with peaceful results.

Two weeks in a row, the IF prompt has hit home! Ahhh…the irony, of it all.

Right now, with limited time and very blocked artistic ability, I thought of the epitome of shakiness… blocks. The precariousness of them, much like life! The joy of playing with blocks and the scariness of them falling over. Child’s play is often a metaphor for life.

This week, let’s play, because life is shaky enough. Peace.

After arguing with my daughter this morning about the benefits of cleaning her room (i.e., “you can stop asking me where everything is”); she stomped to her room!

Later, I looked in her room and became misty-eyed.

Lo and behold, she cleaned her room…but inside of boxes and on the outside of boxes were all the things I love! Her “bear-bear”, her dolls and numerous other toy treasures!
Packed up memories…

For any parent, well some of us at least, seeing your little one grow up and storm into adolescence is challenging at best! I captured this moment in my journal along with this sketch; (I don’t generally go into her messy room, because I have fit every time I do)…sketching always calms me down!

So, long story, short…here is my rendition of “packed“. Packed memories, packed feelings, packed toys, packed childhood, packed teenager, and packed Mom!

I’m sitting in my bedroom, on my bed, now “un-packing” the memories of her babyhood…smiling with some tears…

Today, love all the little ones in your life and pack every moment full of memories…Peace.

During the early to mid 1970s, I was a teenager growing up in NYC. I would sneak downtown to get into the clubs in Manhattan. I got into clubs like Studio 54 and The Garage, I also got into various drag clubs, too!

It was during that time, that I first heard the word, “fierce” used as slang. It’s so New York!

The term, “Fierce” was a slang term which meant, fabulous and nothing could touch that kind of fabulous, in other words, that person was, “fierce“!

I still hear the term used now…

To all the Fierce Girls and Guys, happy weekend!
